Last week, the directive was to do something frivolous.
Well, I may have managed the most frivolous of frivolous things.
I wore a dress. On a mountain.
Okay okay, let’s be real for a moment here. I did not CLIMB a mountain in a dress. No no, that would be silly. I wore a dress driving in my car on a mountain.
And, to be even more fair, I did not realize I would be going up a mountain. I thought I was just going into a park. See, national parks are much different in Illinois and in Missouri than they are in Colorado. In Illinois, it’s flat and shit. A national park means there’s trees and maybe some water and if you’re lucky, a few hills – better in southern Illinois, but I’m a northerner from birth.
And in Missouri, our parks are Swope. Where there’s small hills and rocks and things, but there are no mountains.
There are no cliffs, that have no guard rails.
There is more air down here.
There is less wind.
So you know, I head into this national park thinking I’ll see some big trees and mountains from afar. Little did I know I would be DRIVING on them. Little did I know I would be EXITING MY CAR and the wind would be like 90 MPH and that MY DRESS WOULD BLOW UP SO NOT ONLY DID EVERYONE GET THE BEAUTIFUL MOUNTAINOUS VIEW, THEY ALSO GOT A GREAT VIEW OF MY ASS.
So, that was my frivolous pursuit. I wore heels and a dress in a mountain where the wind tried to knock me over and make me into a flasher. Shortly after this I turned around, exited the mountain, white knuckled it and told myself positive affirmations.
And I bought myself a marriage ring.
(I said yes. Okay, I already said yes on April 30th on Beltane, where I wrote myself a damn love letter and committed myself to one year of me. But now there’s a ring so it feels more official.)
So those are my frivolous pursuits. It was an experience, for sure, and I am sure glad I married myself. Not only am I fun and silly, but also smart. And I have great taste in jewelry.
So tell me, my friends, what are your frivolous pursuits today? What have you done lately, just for the fun of it? Share with me here, leave me a comment, and if you post to instagram connect with me via #bewildandunabashed.
I love you.
And if you wear a dress on a mountain… make sure you’re wearing underwear.
